REVIEW
Spider-Man: Homecoming pleased me in absolutely every single way. This movie by far has the most heart out of any Spider-Man film. Tom Holland's Spider-Man is a true accurate representation of the Spider-Man we all grew up with. Every actor in this film did phenomenal. This is my review for Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The Story:
The movie starts off after the events of the battle between Captain America's team and Iron Man's team, which we saw in Captain America: Civil War. Tony Stark, a mentor figure for Peter now has the responsibility of watching over him and his actions. With the help of Tony Stark's best friend Happy Hogan, they constantly have to be checking up on Peter. Peter tries to re-adapt back to his normal daily routine. Peter tries to balance school, crime fighting, and his social life all at once which we haven't seen other Spider-Man films go as in depth as this one. Right away I noticed that this was pulled right from the comics and they pulled it off beautifully. Peter's situations starts to go rapidly down hill and we see a young Peter Parker struggling to multitask between all of his responsibilities. Through out the movie the lesson is to never give up and to be your self. Spider-Man comics are often about life lessons which the other Spider-Man films barley touched on. The story and characters are more relate able then ever in this film. Yes, Spider-Man 2 focused on this as well but Homecoming shows the human side of Peter Parker. We have all failed and been under stress before. Spider-Man: Homecoming is showing the normal side of the superhero universe. It focuses on a high school boy struggling to keep his aunt happy, struggling to keep up with school and struggling to be the hero that the people need. We see this Spider-Man fail numerous times, but he still keeps going. After all he has been through Peter keeps going even when more stress piles on top of his shoulders. This Spider-Man shows what a true hero is, someone who is good at heart, brave, and cares for others. This Spider-Man is not perfect and he has flaws, which all humans have. We all can not be good at everything but we can try our best to reach our goal. People claim that this movie is not a origin movie but I see it in a different perspective. I see Spider-Man: Homecoming as a birth of a true hero. In many generic super hero films heroes are shown as the individuals who save citizens and fight criminals. Homecoming shows the growth of Peter Parker's maturity level. He faces life, as well as himself in the film.Theirs a lot more to being a hero.
The Characters:
There are many characters that I can dive into and explain how great each character is but in this review we will be focusing on Spider-Man, Vulture, Liz, and Iron Man. Spider-Man: Homecoming is Tom Holland's second role in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. His last appearance was in Captain America: Civil War where he stole the hearts of almost every fan. Tom Holland's performance in Spider-Man: Homecoming was one of the best performances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is a fan of Spider-Man and puts heart into his work. You can see the amount of work put into his acting while watching the film easily. Vulture played by Michael Keaton, pulled off a not very well known character to your regular Marvel fans. He made Vulture relate able and the story shows his intentions and reasoning for them. Michael's Vulture is one of the highlights of the film and is the second best villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, right behind Thanos. Liz played by Laura Harrier was a never seen before character on screen. She played Peter Parker's crush in the film. The story connects two people who are very close to Peter. Peter is close to the Vulture in a enemy way and Peter is close to Liz in a relationship way. The writers were brilliant and connected two very important characters together. This allowed for more suspense to happen in the film. Once Peter finds out of this connection the movie has a unexpected turning point after. Finally but not least we have Iron Man played by the one and only Robert Downey Jr. As always Robert does amazing with his role but especially in this film. Unlike his other roles he plays a mentor figure who creates a father and son like bond through out the movie. The chemistry between all of the characters is some of the best chemistry I have every seen in cinematic history. It all is so believable and realistic.
The Highlights:
Spider-Man: Homecoming has many awesome moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat. One of my personal favorite scenes is when the roof collapses on Spider-Man and he cant get up. Tom Holland does a great job making the viewer feel the pain and emotion Peter Parker is experiencing throughout the movie and especially in this scene. His scream and cry for help sunk my heart, giving me goosebumps. It sounded realistic and you actually felt like this young teenager is in danger. He struggles to get free but fails. Then, he looks into a puddle to see a reflection of half Spider-Man and half Peter Parker. This moment was here to show that Peter Parker is the real hero and he doesn't need the suit to be one. He then started telling himself that he can do this as he started pushing with all of his strength to lift up the fallen rubbel. The rubbel started to rise as we see our hero achieving the impossible. This scene was also taken from The Amazing Spider-Man #33, and it replicates it with great respect.
Final Rating: 10/10
